Overview

The University of Oxford is offering a full-time, fixed-term position as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Structural Mass Spectrometry within the Department of Biochemistry. The successful candidate will join the Newstead group and the Kavli Institute for Nanoscience, reporting to Principal Investigator Professor Simon Newstead and Senior Research Scientist Dr Jo Parker. Funded by the Wellcome Trust for up to 12 months initially, the role focuses on leading the group's native mass spectrometry research examining the structure, mechanism, and cellular biology of solute carrier transporters in mammalian cells.

Requirements

Applicants must hold, or be close to completing, a PhD or DPhil in biophysical chemistry, structural biology, analytical chemistry, or a closely related discipline. Candidates need substantial experience in native top-down mass spectrometry utilizing high-resolution hybrid Orbitrap instrumentation, including Thermo Fisher Orbitrap Ascend and UHMR platforms. Required expertise encompasses native mass spectrometry sample preparation, advanced fragmentation techniques, membrane protein expression and purification, lipid interactions, quantitative analysis of protein modifications, and both proteomics and lipidomics. Additionally, applicants should possess strong computational and data-analysis abilities, which ideally include scientific software development using Python. Advantageous qualifications include prior experience in glycoproteomics, solute carrier transporter research, open-source software development, and a strong publication record.

What you get

The position provides a salary ranging from 42,794 to 47,779 British pounds per annum, with the starting amount determined by available funding, qualifications, and relevant skills. Employee benefits include 38 days of annual leave and a contributory pension scheme.
