Postdoctoral Research Associate
Overview
The School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh, within its Institute for Particle and Nuclear Physics, is hiring a Postdoctoral Research Associate to work in the group of Prof. Marialuisa Aliotta on nuclear astrophysics. The work belongs to the UKRI-funded ERC Advanced Grant NUCLEAR, which studies nuclear clustering effects in astrophysical reactions.
The postdoctoral researcher will develop and apply R-matrix evaluations of experimental data on nuclear reaction cross sections of astrophysical interest. They will work closely with the principal investigator and with collaborator Dr James deBoer of Notre Dame University, using a set of dedicated tools, providing R-matrix global fits of experimental data and contributing to the evaluation of astrophysical reaction rates.
Requirements
The ideal candidate has a strong background in experimental nuclear astrophysics, especially in underground laboratories, with an excellent publication record and leadership in the field. The post holder is expected to co-supervise research students, help provide and supervise graduate and undergraduate projects, make frequent trips to overseas laboratories, present at collaboration meetings and work collaboratively.
What you get
The post is full time at 35 hours per week and fixed term, initially for 12 months with the possibility of extension. Pay is between 41,064 and 48,822 pounds per year at Grade 7, with the level set by the selection panel according to experience.
