This full-time position is based within the Engineering and Technology department under the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Business, operating as a nine-month fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will join the Future Infrastructure and Environment Research Cluster to work on research involving suction dredging, dredge spoil disposal, and sediment-laden plume dynamics.

Who can apply

Applicants must have completed or be in the process of writing up a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as environmental fluid mechanics, coastal or marine hydrodynamics, or sediment transport dynamics. Candidates should possess experience in designing and conducting physical model or experimental studies systematically, utilizing advanced laboratory facilities and measurement techniques, and analyzing data using software packages or programming languages like MATLAB or Python. A developing publication track record, experience in collaborative research, and strong communication skills are also necessary qualifications.

What you get

The position offers an annual salary ranging from £33,951 to £39,906. Grade 7 is compensated at £37,694 to £39,906 per annum, while Grade 7 Training applies for candidates who have not yet been awarded their PhD, with a salary of £33,951 to £36,636 per annum.

Requirements

The role requires collating and analyzing literature-based field and laboratory datasets regarding suction dredging and sediment-laden plume dynamics, as well as designing and conducting scaled physical modeling experiments. Duties include post-processing data to develop improved parameterisations for slurry discharge conditions and deposition footprints, and contributing to technical reports, journal papers, conference presentations, and external collaborative research activities linked to the research and development agreement between the University of Dundee and NPRA/Statens vegvesen. Additional responsibilities involve writing peer-reviewed publications, participating in knowledge exchange and outreach events, and pursuing research funding opportunities.
