Overview

The National Childbirth Trust (NCT), a UK charity supporting people through pregnancy, birth and early parenthood, is recruiting a Communications and Engagement Officer. The role is remote and part-time at 21 hours per week, on a 12-month maternity cover contract starting in mid-September 2026. It comes as NCT embeds a refreshed brand, strengthens internal communications and develops its voice as a leading organisation supporting parents and families.

What you get

The salary is 15,600 pounds per year for 21 hours per week. Benefits include 30 days of annual leave excluding Bank Holidays, pension contributions matched up to 5 percent, flexible working, an Employee Assistance Programme, life assurance, free eye tests, a Blue Light discount card, 24/7 GP access and personalised counselling. NCT can provide reasonable adjustments during recruitment or in the role.

What the role involves

The officer plans, coordinates and delivers internal communications for staff, volunteers and practitioners, producing clear, engaging updates, sharing organisational priorities and supporting communications for major activities such as the Annual General Meeting. They gather, write and edit stories and case studies showing the impact of NCT's work, act as a trusted communications partner to colleagues in different teams, and use feedback and engagement data to improve communication channels.

Who can apply

NCT wants a curious, proactive, organised communicator with strong writing and editing skills who can adapt style to different audiences and channels, plan well, juggle projects and deadlines, ask questions, understand different perspectives and turn complex information into simple communications. Experience in exactly the same type of role is not essential. Good judgement, initiative, attention to detail and relationship-building are valued, along with comfort using digital communication tools, content platforms or email systems, or willingness to learn.

Key dates

The post was advertised on 4 September 2026 and the closing date is 18 September 2026. The contract starts in mid-September 2026.
