Movember Institute of Men's Health: Discovery Research Fellow
Overview
The University of York is recruiting three Movember Institute Discovery Research Fellows in the Department of Health Sciences to develop independent research programmes on the emotional and relational health of boys and young men. Fellows receive five years of funding, dedicated research support, a linked PhD scholarship and structured professional development. They are mentored by Professor Paul Galdas, Movember Institute Professorial Fellow for the UK and Ireland, and join a global cohort of 11 Fellows across five countries, with funded opportunities for international collaboration and meetings.
Research will focus mainly on underserved boys and young men aged 12 to 35 and address one or more themes. Coping and consumption covers responses to stress, adversity and trauma, including alcohol, other drugs, gambling, pornography and other consumption behaviours. Social connection looks at how relationships with peers, partners, family and community, or their absence, shape emotional and relational health. Early fatherhood covers the transition to fatherhood, including perinatal mental health, paternal identity, family health and engagement with services. Fellows lead research, produce publications and accessible outputs, work with policy, practice and community partners, and help recruit and support their linked PhD student.

The programme supports early career researchers in establishing independent programmes, and selection looks at research achievement and leadership potential for career stage, relevant expertise, analytical and communication skills and a collaborative approach.
