Mathematical Staircase Hiring Administrative Assistant: Remote Part-Time Job | $25.10 Per Hour | Apply Now
Overview
Mathematical Staircase, Inc. is hiring a part-time Administrative Assistant to provide year-round support for its selective mathematics summer enrichment programmes for high school and early college students. The job is fully remote and can be done from anywhere in the United States. Pay starts at no less than USD 25.10 per hour during a probationary period, after which the role moves to a salaried contract based on experience. Applications are accepted until the position is filled.
What the role involves
The assistant works with programme directors and takes ownership of tasks. During the application process, duties include data entry and communicating with applicants. In preparation for the programmes, they handle paperwork for admitted students, communicate with families, order supplies, help with travel arrangements and onboard administrative staff. After the programmes, they inventory supplies, process travel reimbursements and update records. They also answer public enquiries, support promotion and prepare data for reports. The work may include negotiating with potential host sites, managing complex spreadsheets and helping interview summer staff.
Schedule
Hours vary by season: as low as 5 to 10 hours a week in autumn, rising in spring to near full-time in May and June, and much lower in July and August. Hours are flexible, but some evening and weekend work is needed. The assistant must be willing to travel to the Philadelphia area one to three times a year.
Requirements
Applicants need a Bachelor's degree, US work authorisation and a MacOS computer. They should work independently with a task-management system, write well, and have administrative, event planning or project management experience, which may be informal. They must be comfortable communicating with students and parents, handle sensitive information such as applications from minors and background checks with discretion, and know Google Sheets, Docs and Forms. LaTeX experience, a mathematics major or minor, and living in the greater Philadelphia area are advantages, and early-career applicants are encouraged.
How to apply
Applicants submit a CV or resume and a cover letter addressing the required and preferred qualifications, written without generative AI, through the application form. The process involves screening, email follow-ups, a video interview, paid sample tasks and a reference check with at least two references.
