Overview

Magamba Network is hiring a Fired Up Officer, based in Harare, Zimbabwe, or working remotely. Magamba Network is a creative and digital media organisation that uses creativity, storytelling and digital platforms to advance social change, and it hosts Fired Up, a network of young African climate activists, creators and creatives working for climate justice and energy sovereignty across the continent.

The Officer provides strategic and operational leadership for Fired Up, coordinating campaigns, teams, partnerships, advocacy, storytelling, monitoring and evaluation, reporting and fundraising. A central aim is to develop campaigns that challenge fossil-fuel influence, climate disinformation, sportswashing and reputation laundering while promoting a just and inclusive renewable-energy transition for Africa.

What the role involves

Duties include coordinating young African activists and creators, building Africa-wide climate and energy campaigns, supporting work on climate disinformation and information integrity, incubating young climate campaigners, and leading multidisciplinary teams. The Officer manages resources, budgets, personnel and interns, organises workshops, training and events, builds monitoring and evaluation frameworks, writes monthly, quarterly and final reports, supports proposals, and builds relationships with advocates, civil society, community groups, independent media and social movements.

The role also leads policy influence at regional, continental and international levels, including policy briefs and position papers promoting decentralized and socially owned renewable energy. On the communications side, the Officer works with the Storytelling team on social media, content strategies, media relations, press releases, opinion pieces and video.

Requirements

Applicants should hold a degree or professional qualification in a field such as communications, journalism, media studies, digital media, marketing, public relations, international development, human rights, political science or creative writing. At least three years of relevant experience is needed in climate justice, advocacy, strategic communications, creative campaigning, youth movement-building or programme coordination. Experience running multi-country or Africa-wide campaigns is valuable. Advantages include familiarity with climate disinformation typologies and fact-checking, interest in Indigenous knowledge systems and decolonial approaches, understanding of informed consent and safeguarding, and knowledge of French or Portuguese.
