Overview

The Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS), an academic and policy institution focused on peace and security in Africa, is inviting qualified individual specialists and firms to provide professional translation and interpretation services. Providers will work on an on-call basis in support of the institute's academic, research and policy communications, including research publications, policy briefs, institutional reports, conferences, workshops and policy dialogues.

Translation services

IPSS needs translation between English and French. Assignments may cover research publications, policy briefs, institutional reports and other communications materials. The work includes editing and proofreading to keep translated documents accurate, clear and suited to academic and policy readers, and to keep terminology consistent. Applicants need strong written proficiency in both languages and professional translation experience, and experience with research, policy, peace and security, development or academic material is an advantage.

Interpretation services

IPSS also seeks interpreters or firms to cover its events and policy engagements in English, Amharic, Arabic, French and Portuguese. Selected interpreters may provide simultaneous interpretation at conferences and workshops and consecutive interpretation at meetings and policy dialogues. Experience in multilingual international settings and with organizations in research, public policy, diplomacy, peace and security, development or academia is relevant.

Who can apply

The call is open to professional translators and interpreters, translation agencies, interpretation firms, language consultants and multilingual professionals with conference interpretation experience. Previous work for international organizations, universities, think tanks, research institutions, government agencies or policy bodies is an advantage. Applicants should show the language proficiency and experience required for the specific service they offer and should read the terms of reference for each position.

How to apply

Applications follow the instructions provided by IPSS, with all required documents and supporting information included.
