The post reports to the Deputy Chief Operating Officer.

What the role involves

The director gives strategic guidance to regional and country leaders, supports adaptive management and strategic planning, monitors programme, organisational and financial performance, reviews work plans, budgets and reports, and supports programme start-up, scale-up and close-out. Experience working with governments, donors and partners is expected.

Requirements

Fluent French and strong English are required, Portuguese is an advantage and knowledge of other African languages is an asset. Applicants should show commitment to sexual and reproductive health and rights, including safe abortion and access to contraception, and must have NGO experience in Africa, ideally in an Ipas implementing country in West Africa. Candidates in West Africa are preferred.

Eligible work locations include Burundi, Chad, Benin, Madagascar, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cote d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Kenya or Alliance locations, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia. About 20 to 25 percent travel is expected. Compensation depends on the market rate in the candidate's country, statutory requirements, Ipas's compensation philosophy and the candidate's experience.
