The post is full-time and hybrid, with employees expected in the office at least three days per week and regular travel between the two offices. Evening or weekend work may occasionally be needed. The IRC was founded in 1933 after a call from Albert Einstein and works in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities to help people affected by conflict, disaster and other crises.

The manager acts as a trusted adviser to managers and leaders and provides strategic and operational people and culture support. Responsibilities include advising on performance management and HR policies, supporting compliance with employment laws, handling escalated welfare matters involving benefits, payroll, HR systems and leave, leading intake and resolution of sensitive employee relations cases, supporting workplace investigations, implementing collective bargaining agreements and maintaining relationships with union representatives. The role also covers onboarding, engagement and culture initiatives, talent development, separation procedures, personnel records, Workday documentation and background checks, and may include supervising a small team.

Who can apply

Applicants need a bachelor's degree, preferably in human resources or business administration, or equivalent experience, and at least five years of progressively responsible HR experience with advanced knowledge of at least one HR discipline. They should have led workplace investigations, supported employee relations, understand federal and state employment laws, and keep strict confidentiality. A master's in human resources management, a PHR or SHRM-CP certification, experience in a unionised environment and experience in a large matrixed organisation are advantages, as are Workday and applicant tracking systems skills.

What you get

The advertised salary is $81,252.55 to $94,430.64, with the final offer based on location, experience, skills, internal equity, market conditions and budget. Benefits include paid sick leave, 10 U.S. public holidays, 20 to 25 days of paid time off, medical, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts, a 403(b) plan with employer match and employer contributions, disability and life insurance and an Employee Assistance Program.
