International Detention Coalition Hiring Europe Programme Officer for Remote Role | Salary: €35,000–€45,000 Per Year
Overview
The International Detention Coalition, known as IDC, is hiring a Europe Programme Officer to support its work on human rights, migration policy reform and rights-based alternatives to immigration detention. The role is full-time and remote, with a salary of €35,000 to €45,000 per year, or the equivalent in GBP, depending on experience and location. It is a one-year contract that may be extended depending on funding. IDC is a global network of more than 200 civil society organisations and individuals in more than 75 countries working to reduce and ultimately end immigration detention.
Who can apply
Candidates must already be based in Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain or the Netherlands with unrestricted legal working rights, since IDC cannot support relocation. They need a degree in a relevant discipline such as international relations, law, migration studies, political science or social sciences, and at least three years of professional experience in project coordination, advocacy and stakeholder engagement in migration or human rights. Fluency in English is mandatory, and Spanish is an advantage. Experience with networks or coalitions, EU-level advocacy, EU institutions or alternatives to detention strengthens an application.
Requirements
The officer reports to the Europe Regional Manager and gives technical, administrative and logistical support to the Europe programme. Duties include supporting members and partners, supporting the European Alternatives to Detention Network, helping develop advocacy strategies and monitoring EU policy, contributing research, briefing notes and communications, and helping organise consultations, workshops and events. The role also involves researching donors, supporting proposals, monitoring and reporting and tracking budgets. Some travel within Europe may be needed.
How to apply
Applicants submit a resume and cover letter through IDC's careers webpage, addressing each key selection criterion. The deadline is 18 September 2026, and IDC will contact shortlisted candidates.
