Overview

HelpAge International is seeking up to six new Trustees to join its Board of Trustees over the coming year to strengthen its leadership, governance, and strategic direction. HelpAge International is an international organisation that promotes the rights, wellbeing, and inclusion of older people through a global network of over 200 organisations across 99 countries. The Board of Trustees provides strategic oversight, ensures the organisation fulfils its charitable purpose, monitors performance, oversees financial management and risk, and holds the Executive Team accountable.

Who can apply

The organisation is looking for senior professionals with substantial professional experience in areas such as finance, fundraising, governance, UK charity law, international development, and global partnerships. Relevant backgrounds may include senior management, executive leadership, board membership, or advisory positions, alongside experience in healthcare, social care, insurance, financial services, life sciences, public policy, or research. HelpAge International is particularly keen to strengthen the geographical representation of its Board by welcoming candidates from Europe, Latin America, and East Asia, and has a specific interest in a UK-based senior finance leader who could potentially succeed the current Treasurer.

What you get

These Trustee positions are voluntary and unremunerated, meaning they are not salaried employment opportunities and do not provide financial compensation. However, reasonable travel and associated expenses incurred while carrying out Trustee responsibilities will be reimbursed. Appointments are normally for an initial three-year term, with the possibility of serving a second three-year term and an additional extension considered only in exceptional circumstances.

Requirements

Trustees are expected to participate actively in Board and committee activities, contribute to discussions, exercise sound judgment, and act as ambassadors for the organisation. The Board meets four times a year, with three virtual meetings and one in-person meeting, and Trustees may also need to attend committee meetings, occasional additional sessions, and potentially travel internationally depending on organisational activities. Applicants must demonstrate strong strategic thinking, integrity, sound professional judgement, a commitment to equality, inclusion, human rights, and the dignity of older people, excellent communication skills, and the ability to handle confidential information responsibly.

How to apply

Applications are managed by Saxton Bampfylde, and interested candidates must submit a CV, a cover letter, and a completed equal opportunities monitoring form using the application code ABGQC.

Key dates

The application deadline is 11 November 2026 at 12:00 noon UK time.
