Harvard University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences is hiring a Research Assistant II (Non-Lab) for the Fionn Folklore Database Project. The position is full-time and fully remote, at 35 hours per week on a seven-month term with possible renewal. The database gives scholars and the public access to orally recorded stories and songs about Fionn mac Cumhaill, a central figure in Gaelic folklore and literature. The assistant helps maintain and expand it through research, translation, content creation, data entry and outreach.
What you will do
Duties include translating descriptions, labels and editorial content from English into Scottish Gaelic or Irish, writing website content about tales and characters, entering and updating database records, and doing online library, archival and biographical research. The assistant also researches collection events to improve records, supports publicity, designs brochures, gives presentations and creates social media content.
Who can apply
Applicants should have a college background or equivalent experience in Celtic Studies, Scottish Gaelic, Irish language or a related field, with qualifications or experience in Scottish Gaelic or Irish composition and translation, good English and the ability to research independently. Preferred strengths include excellent written Gaelic or Irish, folklore or literature research, knowledge of place names, genealogy or census research, website data entry, strong organizational and IT skills and experience with the Fionn Cycle.
Fully remote employees must work all scheduled hours from a Harvard-registered state, so the role is not open worldwide. Visa sponsorship is not available.
