Overview

The Graduate Software Engineer, DevOps position is a permanent role based in Bristol, United Kingdom, operating as part of the Software Ops department at Graphcore. This opportunity forms part of a two-year graduate programme designed to provide hands-on learning, ownership, and professional development alongside a supportive team. Participants work within the Software Infrastructure team to develop and maintain software build and release tools, deploy services using Kubernetes and Docker, and support cloud infrastructure managed through Terraform.

Who can apply

Candidates must hold a Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science, Maths, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field. Applicants are required to have knowledge of Python, Go, C++, or a similar programming language, along with experience developing or managing systems in Linux environments. An understanding of continuous integration and continuous delivery, as well as communication skills for collaboration, are necessary. Furthermore, applicants must already possess the right to work in the UK for the full duration of the programme without requiring visa sponsorship, as work visas cannot be sponsored for these early careers opportunities.

What you get

The role provides a permanent position with a two-year graduate training programme, flexible working arrangements, and retirement planning support featuring up to 5 percent matched pension contributions. Additional provisions include phantom equity, income protection, life assurance, and an electric vehicle scheme accessed through salary sacrifice. Employees also gain access to office spaces equipped with free food and an on-site barista, alongside flexible and optional benefits such as private medical insurance, dental cover, a health cash plan, a cycle to work scheme, and give-as-you-earn options.

Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate their programming, Linux, and continuous integration skills through coursework, dissertations, personal or team projects, research, or other relevant experience detailing what was built, the approach taken, and the lessons learned. While not essential, exposure or experience in Kubernetes, OpenStack, infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or OpenTofu, GitHub Actions, build tools, high-performance computing, Grafana, or cloud services such as AWS serves as a useful additional strength.

How to apply

To submit an application, candidates must answer the provided application questions and upload both a CV and a cover letter. Successful applicants after the initial review are invited to complete a technical assessment, while candidates reaching the final stage attend in-person assessments in early spring.

Key dates

The application deadline is midnight on 29th November 2026, though early applications are encouraged since applications may close ahead of this date. Applicants will be notified of their outcome by early December at the latest, with the programme starting in September 2027.
