Overview
The International Rescue Committee is recruiting for its Global Surge Team roster in the role of Emergency Education, Early Childhood and Development Coordinator. The Global Surge Team is a roster of qualified humanitarian professionals who provide short-term specialist support to IRC operations worldwide. Members can be deployed for up to three months, deployments are not guaranteed, and roster members may take on additional assignments when they arise.
The coordinator provides technical leadership in Education in Emergencies and Early Childhood Development. Duties include rapid needs assessments and recommendations for emergency leadership, designing context-specific programmes, supporting quick start-up and scale-up, recruiting and supervising programme staff, managing procurement and finances, building monitoring and evaluation systems, coordinating with education clusters and inter-agency groups, representing the IRC with authorities, NGOs and UN agencies, supporting proposals and donor reports, and writing handover documents at the end of deployments. The role also covers safeguarding and safe participation of children, teachers, caregivers and communities.
Who can apply
Applicants need at least five years of experience developing and managing education programmes, preferably including early childhood programming in humanitarian settings, and experience with rapid start-up in acute emergencies. They should have worked with local governments, community leaders and local partners, managed budgets, supervised and trained teams, delivered donor-funded programmes and written strong proposals and reports. Fluent English is required, professional Arabic is strongly preferred and French is an advantage.
Requirements
Roster members must be able to deploy within 72 hours of being notified of an assignment, with deployments lasting up to 12 weeks. IRC staff are expected to uphold the values of Integrity, Service, Equality and Accountability.
