Global Solar Council Chief Operating Officer Job 2026: Remote Leadership Role Paying Up to £120,000
Overview
The Global Solar Council (GSC), a non-profit, membership-based industry association for the solar energy and battery storage sector, is looking for a Chief Operating Officer. Its members include national solar and storage associations and private companies from North America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America. The COO reports to the Chief Executive Officer and gives strategic, financial and operational leadership as the organisation grows. The post is part of the Organization Builder Program, which helps climate civil society organisations build the operating capacity needed for sustainable growth.
What the role involves
Financial duties include planning, multi-year budgeting, forecasting, audit support, financial reporting, board disclosures, grant accounting, compliance, risk management and oversight of revenue from membership, sponsorship and philanthropy. About 30% of the role is revenue growth and business development.
On operations, the COO will build systems for a globally distributed team, including remote-first infrastructure, project management, digital transformation and AI-enabled tools, along with cross-border contracts, remittances and travel logistics. The post also covers leading operational and administrative teams, HR frameworks, and governance work with the CEO, Board and Treasurer, such as board elections, Annual General Meetings and grant administration.
Requirements
Applicants need a Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, management or a related field, with an MBA or financial qualification highly desirable, plus at least 10 years of senior operations management experience. Experience in a membership association, trade body, standard-setting organisation or international non-profit is an advantage, as is a record of helping organisations mature from early-stage setups. Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Teams, CRM and accounting software is desirable.
What you get
The salary is 80,000 to 120,000 pounds per year, based on London Tier 1 and Tier 2 benchmark equivalents. The post is remote-first, with a preference for candidates in Eurasian time zones to work with the London headquarters and Asian and China partners. The Organization Builder Program also gives access to climate-sector education, mentorship, coaching and a peer network.
