The German Federal Employment Agency's Office for the Placement of Executive Staff in International Organizations (BFIO) has opened the second 2026 recruitment round of the Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme. It offers 22 positions for young professionals at United Nations agencies and other international organizations, including IAEA, IOM, ITC, IEA, UNCCD, UNCTAD, UNECE, UNDP, UN-Habitat, the UN Secretariat, WFP, WHO and WIPO.
The posts cover many fields, among them human resources policy, migration and livelihoods, strategic planning and governance, renewable energy, sustainable land management, economic affairs, peacebuilding, housing and urban development, financial management, legal and political affairs, counter-terrorism, internet governance, supply chain management, public health and intellectual property.
Examples include an Associate HR Policy Officer at IAEA in Vienna, a Migration and Livelihoods Officer at IOM in Erbil, a JPO at ITC in Geneva, a Junior Renewable Energy Policy Analyst at IEA in Paris, a Junior Policy Officer at UNCCD in Bonn, and a housing and urban development post at UN-Habitat in Nairobi. The UN Secretariat has vacancies in New York, Geneva, Addis Ababa and Nairobi, WFP seeks a Supply Chain Officer in N'Djamena, WHO a Project Officer in Geneva, and WIPO an Associate Program Officer in Geneva.
Requirements
Most positions require a master's degree or equivalent advanced qualification and about two years of relevant professional experience, although requirements differ by vacancy. Some posts ask for three years, such as the WFP and WIPO roles, and several require English, French or both.
How to apply
Applicants should read the full vacancy descriptions and use only the current version of the official application form. Selection procedures continue to be held virtually. Because of the high number of applications, BFIO will not send rejection letters, so applicants who receive no interview invitation should consider themselves unsuccessful.
Key dates
The deadline for this round is August 23, 2026, at 24:00 Central European Time.
