Overview

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is offering a six-month fixed-term internship, Intern, Communication and Research, in its A1 Portfolio in Utrecht, the Netherlands. The internship is for emerging professionals and recent graduates interested in communications, nutrition, food systems, international development, public health and research. It is subject to the availability of funding, and the intern works at a designated GAIN office. The intern supports GAIN's A1 portfolio, Knowledge Leadership activities and Dutch engagement.

What you get

The stipend is EUR 747 per month. The internship gives practical experience in turning technical evidence into accessible communication materials, along with exposure to international nutrition, food systems, evidence synthesis, communications and programme coordination.

What the intern does

Responsibilities include consolidating communication products across the portfolio, helping develop factsheets, website content and blogs, supporting research and evidence work, writing briefing papers that translate evaluation findings and technical evidence for non-specialists, supporting A1 portfolio projects, helping organise events in the Netherlands including activities connected to World Food Day 2026, and writing blogs based on existing content for the Netherlands Working Group on International Nutrition.

Who can apply

Candidates should be enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a bachelor's or master's programme in nutrition, food systems, international development, public health, communications or a related field. Excellent written and spoken English is needed, as is the ability to turn complex food systems and nutrition information into clear content. Useful skills include professional or academic writing, literature reviews, factsheets, blogs and reports, basic project management, project coordination and administrative support, event logistics and Microsoft Office. GAIN wants organised, proactive, flexible, detail-oriented people with cultural awareness who can work independently and in a diverse team.

Applicants must already be based in the Netherlands with the legal right to live and work there. GAIN provides no visa sponsorship or relocation assistance.

How to apply

Applications go through GAIN's official recruitment process. GAIN may close the vacancy early if it receives many applications, so applying early is encouraged.
