Overview

The European Union Delegation to Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein is recruiting a Press and Information Officer for its Political, Press and Information Section in Bern, Switzerland. The post is a Local Agent Group I role on a fixed-term contract of two years, with possible renewal subject to budget and operational considerations. It starts on 1 March 2027 with a three-month probationary period.

The EU Delegation represents the European Union in dealings with the Swiss government and works alongside the embassies of the 27 Member States. The officer works under the Head of the Political, Press and Information Section.

Requirements

About 85% of the work is press, communication and public diplomacy, and about 15% is policy-related. The officer acts as the Delegation's spokesperson, advises the Ambassador on communication and keeps relationships with local and international journalists. Tasks include press releases and reviews, speeches and interviews for the Head of Delegation, media monitoring and reports, handling journalist requests, organising media coverage of missions and events, and working with EU headquarters communications teams.

The role also leads digital and social media strategy, including content for social platforms and the website, campaigns, livestreaming, analytics and work with external providers. Event management and outreach duties include preparing public diplomacy events and supporting high-level and site visits. The advertisement looks for substantial experience in media relations, strategic and digital communication, public diplomacy, journalism, public relations or event management, with strong German, French and English.

The job is full time at 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work and travel for work missions.
