EPSRC Postdoctoral Pathway Fellow
Overview
The University of Bristol is offering EPSRC Postdoctoral Pathway Fellowships through its Engineering Mathematics and Technology department. The scheme supports graduates who received EPSRC-funded doctoral training and want to take their first steps toward research independence. Fellows design their own programme of research at the frontiers of science and engineering, and proposals are welcome across the full range of topics in the EPSRC research portfolio. The award is meant for new research, either high-impact original work or new interdisciplinary directions, and should not be used to finish PhD work.
What you get
Funding runs for up to two years on a full-time, fixed-term contract of up to 24 months. Fellows are appointed at Grade J on the University of Bristol salary scale, which is between 44,746 and 50,253 pounds per year, and receive a 5,000 pound grant for research costs. Alongside a Project Sponsor, a Bristol academic who backs the project proposal, each fellow has an academic mentor for research and career advice, and access to personal and professional development opportunities within world-class research groups.
Who can apply
The scheme is aimed at early career researchers who are close to finishing a PhD or have recently completed one. Applicants must have held EPSRC PhD studentship support, covering stipend or fees, or an EPSRC training award such as a CDT, ICASE or IDLA studentship. They must not hold a permanent academic post.
The thesis must be submitted before the post starts. Recent graduates must have had their viva on or after 1 November 2025. Those still finishing must intend to submit by 31 January 2027, or the offer will be withdrawn, and they must include a statement of support from their supervisor confirming the expected submission timeline.
How to apply
Applicants complete the application documents set out in the application guidance and upload them to the other documents section of the application portal.
Key dates
The advert closes at 23:59 UK time on Sunday 1 November 2026. Interviews are expected on Thursday 10 December 2026.
