DoSomething DoCrew: Paid Youth Leadership Opportunity for Emerging Changemakers in the United States
Overview
DoSomething is accepting applications for its inaugural DoCrew, a paid leadership opportunity for emerging young adult leaders in the United States. Four young people will be chosen, each representing one of four focus areas, to use their voices and personal stories to encourage other young people to act on issues affecting their communities. Applicants do not need to be influencers, professional content creators or nationally recognised activists. DoSomething is looking for authentic young people with genuine stories, strong ideas, curiosity, initiative, community involvement and a willingness to learn.
What you get
Each selected member receives $250 every two weeks, subject to applicable tax and legal requirements, for completing the agreed responsibilities during a six-month pilot. Members also receive leadership and media training, one-on-one mentorship and ongoing support from the DoSomething team, and a chance to share their voices with DoSomething's community of more than 1 million members. They gain hands-on content creation experience and build a portfolio of published content and campaign work.
What members do
Members create and submit digital content such as short-form videos, photos, social media posts, written reflections, blog-style content and campaign materials. They take part in virtual meetings, training and coaching sessions, respond to feedback, support campaigns and share reflections on their experience. Content goes through DoSomething's review process and organisational guidelines.
Focus areas
The four areas are Walk the Walk, covering equity, justice, economic mobility, belonging and community service; No Planet B, covering climate action, sustainability and environmental justice; Thrive On, covering mental health, safety and wellbeing; and Be Heard, covering community voice, democracy, advocacy and civic participation. Applicants connect their interests and experiences to one of these.
