DAAD Study Scholarships for STEM Disciplines 2027/28: Fully Funded Master’s Opportunity in Germany for Students from Developing and Emerging Countries
Overview
The DAAD Study Scholarships for STEM Disciplines support high-achieving students from developing and emerging countries who want a full-time Master's degree in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences or engineering at a university in Germany. Funding lasts 10 to 24 months depending on the standard length of the chosen programme, begins in 2027 and normally starts on 1 October 2027, or earlier if a German language course is needed first. The scholarship is meant for programmes starting in the winter semester 2027/28.
Who can apply
Applicants must come from a developing or emerging country and must have completed a first university degree recognised in Germany, such as a Bachelor's, by the application deadline at the latest. People who already hold a Master's degree by then are not eligible. The chosen programme must be full-time, on-campus, tuition-free and offered by a state or state-recognised German university. Interdisciplinary programmes qualify with a clearly designated STEM focus, while programmes already started or including study periods outside Germany are excluded.
What you get
Scholars receive 992 euros per month, payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance, a travel allowance and an annual study allowance of 460 euros. Possible extras include a rent subsidy, an allowance for accompanying family members, support related to disability or chronic illness, reimbursement of carbon-offset payments for flights, and language-learning help such as online courses, a German course before the programme, and TestDaF or DSH fees. The scholarship does not cover tuition fees. After the first year, academic progress is reviewed before funding continues.
How to apply
Only applications with every mandatory document are considered. Documents are reviewed for academic achievement, course of study, language skills and internships or work experience, and pre-selected applicants are interviewed virtually or in person by a committee of university teachers. Assessment covers academic qualification, the quality and preparation of the study project, motivation, personal and professional potential, and social commitment. Circumstances such as disability, illness, raising children, caring for relatives, refugee background or financing studies through work can be explained in the form.
