Arizona State University, through the McCain Institute, is hiring a full-time Communications Coordinator in Washington, D.C. The McCain Institute is a nonpartisan organization inspired by the legacy of Senator John McCain that works on democracy, human rights, character-driven leadership, security, human dignity and countering human trafficking. It describes itself as an action tank. The coordinator reports to the Senior Director of Communications and supports nearly every part of the institute's communications.
Duties include drafting communications materials and storytelling content, writing press releases and media advisories, distributing them through Cision, monitoring coverage and preparing daily media clip reports, creating and publishing social media content and covering live events, helping produce the monthly newsletter, recording and editing videos, supporting events such as the Sedona Forum by taking notes, photographing and posting updates, managing invitations and RSVPs, updating the website, preparing analytics reports, organizing assets and handling administrative tasks such as scheduling and travel. Occasional travel is expected, and the role may require responding outside normal hours.
What you get
The salary is $48,600 to $56,000 per year depending on qualifications and experience. The role is eligible for a hybrid arrangement, with employees generally spending at least 60 percent of the workweek at their assigned ASU location.
Requirements
Applicants need an associate's degree and at least one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong writing and editing, familiarity with AP Style and experience with social media, video recording, graphic design and video editing tools are sought, along with organization, detail orientation, adaptability and good interpersonal skills. Preference goes to candidates interested in the McCain legacy, international affairs, foreign policy, politics or leadership development.
