Overview

The Clean Slate Initiative (CSI) is hiring a full-time, remote Policy Coordinator to join its policy team. Founded in 2019, CSI works across the United States and in Congress to advance laws that automatically seal eligible criminal records for people who have completed their sentences and stayed crime-free. According to CSI, 14 states and Washington, D.C. have passed Clean Slate laws affecting more than 18 million people.

What you get

The annual salary is $56,000 to $62,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include 100 percent employer-paid health, dental and vision insurance, a 6 percent employer 401(k) contribution, pre-tax transportation benefits, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave and paid casual time off. The position is exempt from overtime requirements.

What the role involves

Reporting to the Public Policy Director, the coordinator supports the Policy Department through policy research, project management, knowledge management and technical assistance. Duties include tracking projects, meetings and deadlines, maintaining policy tracking systems and legislative comparison frameworks, tracking legislative developments, researching sealing, expungement, automated relief and petition-based relief, compiling eligibility rules, exclusions, waiting periods and procedures across all 50 states, creating policy resources for campaigns and implementation, answering staff policy questions and supporting coalition and partner meetings.

Who can apply

CSI wants an organised, detail-oriented, curious professional with experience in policy, legislative, legal or public policy research who can manage multiple priorities and communicate well. Familiarity with Asana, Google Workspace, PolicyNote and Airtable is desirable. Applicants must live in the United States and be authorised to work there without current or future visa sponsorship. They should be near a major airport, able to travel about 10 to 15 percent, and attend onsite planning meetings at least twice a year, plus an annual convening and staff learning trip. Candidates near the Orlando office may discuss hybrid arrangements.

How to apply

Candidates apply through the organisation's Talent Portal. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Key dates

Applications are open from August 25 to September 15, 2026. First interviews are expected in late September and early October, and the tentative start date is November 16, 2026.
