CIVICUS, a global alliance of more than 17,000 members in over 180 countries that works to defend civic freedoms, strengthen civil society and promote citizen participation, is hiring a Head of Finance. The role gives strategic and hands-on financial leadership, supporting the long-term sustainability of the organisation and working closely with the Chief Operations Officer (COO) on budgeting, planning, reporting, compliance, audit and financial governance. CIVICUS works with activists and grassroots organisations to monitor violations of civic space and amplify voices from the Global South.
What the role involves
The Head of Finance leads and mentors the finance team, sets and implements financial strategy, oversees budgeting and financial planning, prepares reports and management accounts, manages audits and financial risk, and ensures compliance with donor, statutory and regulatory requirements. The role also strengthens financial systems, controls and governance, advises on strategic decisions, supports programme teams with financial guidance and promotes accountability, transparency and sustainability.
Requirements
Applicants need a recognised professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent, at least seven years of post-qualification experience, at least three years as a Head of Finance and senior finance leadership experience in an organisation of comparable size and complexity. Other expected skills include strong written and spoken English, extensive non-profit experience, managing restricted donor funding, knowledge of compliance requirements for the European Union, United States foundations and European government agencies, explaining complex financial matters to non-financial colleagues, designing financial management training, leading geographically dispersed teams, delegating effectively, understanding human rights and social justice principles and implementing financial automation and process improvements. Another United Nations language is an advantage.
How to apply
Applicants apply through the CIVICUS recruitment platform with a detailed CV and a cover letter of no more than one page.
