Chapman Fellow in Mathematics (Statistics Section)
Overview
The Statistics Section of the Department of Mathematics at Imperial College London is recruiting one or more Chapman Fellows, starting in September 2027. The fellowships last a fixed term of 3 years and are open to work across the breadth of statistical science. They suit people who want an academic career in statistics. The work is hybrid and based in South Kensington.
Fellows carry out independent, original research, submit work to leading refereed journals, and help with teaching and administration. They follow a self-directed programme of research and scholarship, take part in the national and international statistics community, teach undergraduates and take a role in MSc teaching and project supervision.
Requirements
The college is looking for a track record of research in statistics, interpreted broadly, at the highest level. Candidates should want to engage actively with Imperial's seminars, conferences and other events, and have the background and motivation to teach undergraduates and on a leading MSc programme and to supervise MSc theses, in collaboration with external industrial partners where appropriate.
What you get
Pay is between 50,733 and 59,484 pounds per year. Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD are appointed as Research Assistant on a range of 45,399 to 48,876 pounds per year. The package includes 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes, plus access to dedicated career support for researchers and opportunities for promotion and progression within a leading statistics research group.
How to apply
Alongside the online application, candidates upload a full CV, a cover letter, a research statement, a teaching statement and a list of publications.
Key dates
The closing date is 29 October 2026, and interviews are planned for January 2027.
