Overview

Call Africa Kenya is seeking a consultant or consultancy team to act as Lead Trainer on Life Skills, Psychosocial Support, Disability and Inclusion Mainstreaming for the Educational and Work Inclusion for Young Students with Disabilities (Edu-WISE) project. Edu-WISE is a 36-month initiative funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. It is led by CEFA with Call Africa Kenya, Deaf Empowerment Kenya, the Federation of Kenyan Employers, TVETA and the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, and works in Nairobi, Murang'a and Makueni counties to make technical and vocational education more inclusive.

Assessments found limited support structures for students with disabilities in the target vocational training centres. Only one of nine centres has an active Disability Mainstreaming Committee, and many managers and teaching staff need training in psychosocial support, counselling, career guidance and life skills.

What you will do

The consultant will design, deliver and evaluate a training programme. The work begins with a review of project documents and Kenyan disability legislation and the development of curricula, manuals and toolkits. A two-day residential training in Nairobi follows for about 25 managers, county officials and partners, producing an institutional action plan. The consultant then runs nine four-day county-level courses covering inclusive teaching, counselling, personalised learning, accessible digital tools and mainstreaming, and finishes with an analysis of pre- and post-training results and a final report. The assignment totals 132 working days, of which 44 are field-based.

Requirements

Applicants need a degree in psychology, counselling, social work, special needs education, inclusive pedagogy, development studies or a related field, and at least two years of experience delivering programmes on disability inclusion, life skills, psychosocial support or mainstreaming. Experience in Kenya's TVET sector, including TVETA frameworks and county structures, and in training public officials and teachers is required. Fluent English and Swahili are mandatory.

What you get

The indicative budget is KES 750,000 to KES 800,000 gross, paid in instalments against approved deliverables. Registered companies may be paid with 16 percent VAT, and unregistered individuals face 5 percent withholding tax.

How to apply

Submit a technical proposal, methodology with a sample session outline, financial proposal, CVs, examples of earlier training materials and two references. Evaluation is weighted 80 percent technical and 20 percent financial.

Key dates

The deadline is 24 August 2026. Screening runs from 25 August to 1 September, presentations from 2 to 4 September, final selection on 7 to 8 September, and signing is expected on 14 September 2026.
