Overview

ClimateWorks Foundation is recruiting an Associate Director, Donor Communications. The position is full-time and remote within the United States, classified as U.S. Flexible. ClimateWorks works to accelerate climate progress by connecting funders and implementing organizations worldwide. Since its establishment in 2008 it says it has granted more than $2 billion to over 850 grantees in 50 countries, working with more than 80 funders. It is headquartered in San Francisco and operates as a globally distributed organization.

The role

The Associate Director leads the daily operations of the donor communications function, which currently has two direct reports. The work covers funder-facing product development and messaging, broad-based funder communications, and individualized stewardship and cultivation plans for priority funders and prospects. Duties include overseeing decks, memos, talking points, narrative briefs and tailored two-page documents, turning complex strategies into persuasive funder-ready material, maintaining messaging frameworks, managing requests and timelines, preparing leaders for meetings with funder principals and CEOs, tracking prospect engagement, and coaching the team. The role reports to the Director of Partner + Program Communications and works closely with the Philanthropic Partnerships team.

Requirements

Applicants need at least seven years in fundraising communications, donor relations, development communications or a closely related field, plus two to three years of supervisory experience. Strong writing and editing, knowledge of audience segmentation and funder journey mapping, CRM-informed communications, analytical thinking, project management and relationship-building are expected. Experience with philanthropic foundations, climate organizations or mission-driven nonprofits is an advantage, as is familiarity with Salesforce, Pardot or Account Engagement, Asana, Google Workspace and presentation software.

What you get

Salary is $130,000 to $140,000 for the San Francisco Bay Area or New York City, and $120,000 to $130,000 for other U.S. locations. Benefits include healthcare, paid time off and holidays, sabbatical leave for qualifying employees, a 401(k) plan, life and disability insurance, family-support benefits, and physical, financial and mental wellness benefits. Staff attend several in-person gatherings each year, including an annual San Francisco in-town week, an all-staff retreat and a department retreat.

How to apply

Candidates review the full job description and apply through the foundation's careers platform. The listing is U.S.-based, so applicants outside the United States should check location and employment eligibility first. No deadline is stated.
