Overview
The Africa Jobs Fund is recruiting a Head of Operations for its platform and fund. The full-time role is remote, with a strong preference for candidates based in Africa. The fund backs companies that can significantly raise incomes for people across Africa, concentrating on export manufacturing and international labour mobility. It aims to mobilise $100 million, generate $50 billion in income gains for African workers and double the lifetime incomes of more than 250,000 low-income people.
What the role involves
The fund has begun making investments and plans to increase its deployments each year, so the Head of Operations will build the systems needed to move from a small, fast-growing operation to a larger investment platform, without an established manual to follow. Duties include overseeing the deployment pipeline, due-diligence workflows, portfolio tracking, reporting systems, internal tools, knowledge management and cost-effectiveness analysis, and developing deal-structuring templates. The postholder will recruit talent for the fund and its ventures, help with structuring, documentation, disbursements and portfolio management alongside the finance and legal teams at Renaissance Philanthropy, and handle budgets, vendors, compliance, travel, hiring logistics and funder reporting.
Requirements
The fund seeks roughly 5 to 10 years of experience, including running operations at a fund or similar organisation, in areas such as investment operations, philanthropy, venture capital, private equity or impact investing. Candidates should have built systems from scratch, show sound judgement when information is incomplete, and have worked in Africa. Experience with early-stage companies or the two focus areas is an advantage. The fund expects extensive use of AI in the work and in the systems built, and values people who act independently.
