Overview

Abjad Educational Initiative is seeking a Media and Institutional Communications Manager to strengthen its communications, partnerships, fundraising and public engagement in Germany. The organisation works on educational projects for displaced children and young people. The manager leads communications and institutional engagement, working with teams and stakeholders across countries, and covers media and digital communications, public relations, partnership development, fundraising support, events, volunteer management and internal coordination.

What the role involves

Duties include developing media, communications and digital strategies, running integrated campaigns and events, supporting communications for the Iqraa, Athar and Yasmine initiatives, and managing the visual identity, website and social media. The manager works with external designers and media professionals, builds relationships with journalists, influencers and institutions, and monitors communications performance. They represent the organisation in Germany and Europe, build relationships with partners and members of the Syrian community, maintain stakeholder and institutional databases, identify donors, partners and funding opportunities, and prepare presentations and partnership documents. They also organise events and keep an annual events calendar, recruit and coordinate volunteers in Germany, and support internal planning, reporting and meetings.

Who can apply

Applicants should have a degree in public relations, media, communications, business administration, international relations, development studies or a related field, and relevant experience in communications, public relations, media, partnerships or nonprofit organisations. Experience working with institutions, partners, donors or communities is needed, and supervising teams, events or volunteers is valuable. Strong communication, presentation, negotiation and relationship-building skills, strategic thinking and the ability to work across countries and teams are required.

Requirements

Fluency in Arabic and English is required. Knowledge of German is a strong advantage, as is knowledge of the Syrian context.
