Overview

The 1.5°Climate Donor Collaborative is seeking a Development Director to lead its fundraising and donor engagement strategies. Established in 2022, the organisation connects philanthropists with initiatives working to address the climate crisis, having raised over US$40 million for climate mitigation efforts. This full-time role involves expanding the network of approximately 700 climate-focused donors, establishing fundraising targets, and mobilising financial resources for high-impact solutions.

Who can apply

This opportunity is open to experienced fundraising professionals with a strong background in major donor engagement, philanthropic development, and relationship management. Applicants are required to have at least three years of experience in major donor fundraising, specifically in cultivating and managing relationships with individuals capable of contributing US$10,000 or more. Candidates must be based in the United States. Backgrounds in nonprofit development, political or electoral fundraising, major donor advisory networks, and climate philanthropy are considered particularly advantageous.

What you get

The position offers an annual contract rate of US$120,000. Additional benefits include flexible working hours, three weeks of paid vacation, national holidays, and reimbursement for work-related travel expenses. The role also provides opportunities to engage with international climate philanthropy networks. This is classified as a 1099 independent contractor position, meaning direct health insurance and retirement benefits are not provided by the organisation.

Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to climate action and environmental philanthropy alongside proven experience in direct solicitation and major donor fundraising. Candidates should possess the ability to build relationships with high-net-worth individuals, develop and implement fundraising strategies, and work independently in a fast-paced environment. Additional requirements include strong analytical, communication, writing, and interpersonal skills, as well as experience managing donor databases and customer relationship management systems such as Bloomerang. The role involves periodic domestic travel averaging a few days per month.

How to apply

Interested candidates should submit their applications through the official online application form by providing the requested personal information and details of their relevant fundraising experience.
