Working Student - Launch Vehicle Design (m/f/d)
Overview
The Working Student position in Launch Vehicle Design focuses on supporting the engineering team within the Reusability Program. The role involves contributing to the preliminary design and coordination of reusability experiments, starting with European Space Agency reusability studies. Responsibilities include translating test insights into architecture-level performance assessments, design constraints, and development targets, as well as conducting preliminary sizing for structural interfaces, instrumentation layouts, actuator systems, and mechanisms. The working student will coordinate with specialist departments, such as Launch Vehicle structures and AIT, to ensure system compatibility and compliance. Additional duties involve designing upgrade systems, supporting program-level decisions through structured results and data-driven recommendations, defining requirements for ground test rigs, analysing test data, and assisting with rapid prototyping and testing activities.
Who can apply
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a STEM programme such as Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechantronics, or a comparable field of study. Candidates are required to have practical experience in multidisciplinary hardware development along with an understanding of interfaces among structural design, vehicle design, avionics, and AIT. Essential technical qualifications include proficiency in CAD, foundational knowledge of structural design and finite element methods, and programming skills to develop practical tools for engineering, testing, or data analysis. Applicants should exhibit a hands-on, proactive, and adaptable working style capable of managing changing priorities, alongside strong communication and teamwork abilities and fluency in English. Bonus skills include experience with structural sizing, finite element analysis, load-bearing component design, exposure to manufacturing, assembly, integration, and test processes, or participation in a student engineering team.
