Overview

Isar Aerospace SE, a privately funded New Space company building launch vehicles for small and medium-sized satellites and constellations into Low Earth Orbit, is looking for a Working Student in Avionics within its Spectrum programme. The position is based in Parsdorf, Bavaria, and sits in the Reusability Program, where the student supports the engineering team in the preliminary design and coordination of reusability experiments.

The work initially supports European Space Agency reusability studies. The student turns insights from Spectrum tests into architecture-level performance assessments, design constraints and development targets, and works with specialist departments such as Avionics and GNC to ensure compatibility with system constraints.

What you will do

Responsibilities include designing the avionics architecture within the limits of mission objectives, existing architecture and available components, and carrying out preliminary sizing of actuators, instrumentation layouts and harnessing. The student supports programme-level decisions by delivering structured results, trade-offs and data-driven recommendations, and after becoming familiar with the architecture works with the GNC department on system requirements, avionics capabilities and instrumentation. Further tasks are driving ground requirements for telemetry and data processing, taking part in data analysis and documentation, and supporting rapid prototyping and testing.

Requirements

Applicants should be enrolled in a relevant STEM discipline such as aerospace, electrical or mechanical engineering and have more than one year of experience in high-tech projects related to avionics. Experience with avionics system and component layout and design is expected, as are good communication and teamwork skills, the ability to juggle tasks with different priorities, proficiency in common CAD software such as SolidWorks or Siemens NX, and fluent English. Participation in student groups or amateur engineering competitions such as EuRoC, SAC or IREC and German proficiency are bonus skills.

What you get

Benefits include subsidised daily lunches, a flexible mobility budget offering either a fully financed Deutschlandticket or a fuel allowance, sponsored sports club memberships, free snacks and drinks, and free online support from psychologists and lifestyle experts for the employee and family.

Due to security clearance requirements, affiliations with certain countries listed in German security legislation may affect the application process.
