Overview

Tracium GmbH is offering a part-time Working Student position in AI Engineering and Document Intelligence, done alongside studies and open to students with no prior experience. Tracium builds AI-assisted software that helps technical teams turn complex manuals into structured, traceable information, combining document intelligence with S1000D authoring and starting with maritime applications. The position is listed as remote, with Germany as the base.

The working student works with experienced engineers on practical AI problems involving real technical documents, contributing to experiments, evaluation and product improvements while building engineering skills with guidance from the team.

What you will do

Tasks include exploring document parsing, OCR and structured information extraction, building Python scripts and small prototypes with AI models, and preparing and maintaining datasets for testing extraction and retrieval quality. The student also compares model outputs with source documents and investigates errors, helps automate evaluation and regression checks, contributes to document processing workflows and internal tools, and documents findings about what works, what fails and why.

Requirements

Applicants should be currently enrolled in computer science, data science, mathematics, engineering or a related degree. Required skills are hands-on Python development, practical experience with Git, APIs and data handling, a good understanding of LLMs, machine learning and document intelligence, attention to detail, a willingness to test assumptions, and clear communication in English.

What you get

The role offers practical experience with AI beyond simple chatbot demos, guidance and code reviews with exposure to production engineering, ownership of manageable tasks with visible product impact, and direct work with an early-stage founding team.

How to apply

Applicants send a CV, their field of study, expected graduation date and weekly availability, and may include a university or personal project with a short explanation. Applicants of all backgrounds are welcome, and meeting every listed requirement is not necessary.
