Overview

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) offers paid internships at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, for students and recent graduates from anywhere in the world. Placements last between 2 and 12 months depending on the position. Interns support different teams and learn about innovation, creativity and intellectual property. Applications are handled on a rolling basis through the WIPO Internship Roster.

Internship areas include law, international relations, political science, economics, statistics, information technology, technical cooperation, project management, administration, translation, marketing and communications.

What you get

Undergraduate interns receive a monthly stipend of CHF 1,645 and graduate interns receive CHF 2,170. Eligible interns can receive travel support of up to CHF 1,500. Medical and professional accident insurance is provided during the internship, and selected candidates can get visa support. Interns accrue 2.5 days of annual leave for every month worked and have 10 official holidays each year.

Who can apply

The undergraduate category (Category I) is for bachelor's graduates who finished their degree within the last two years, third or fourth-year bachelor's students, students who must complete an internship as part of their bachelor's degree, and master's students who have not yet finished their coursework or final thesis. A good working knowledge of English or French is needed.

The graduate category (Category II) is for master's graduates who completed their degree within the last two years, graduate students who have finished coursework but not their final thesis, and graduate students pursuing an additional degree after a first master's.

How to apply

Applicants check the eligibility requirements, create an account in the WIPO online recruitment system, complete their profile and choose a preferred area of work. They then submit the online application with the required information, a job questionnaire and a motivation letter. WIPO reviews applications, and shortlisted applicants may be invited to an online interview or test. Selected applicants receive an internship offer with start-date details.
