UN Online Volunteers Program 2026 | Remote Volunteering
Overview
The UN Online Volunteers program, run through the United Nations Volunteers platform, lets people contribute to UN agencies and international NGOs entirely online. Volunteers support sustainable development, humanitarian action, climate initiatives, gender equality and other work linked to the Sustainable Development Goals, from anywhere in the world. Assignments cover areas such as writing, research, graphic design, translation, digital marketing and IT. No international travel is needed, and there is no application fee.
Who can apply
The program is open to people of any nationality who are at least 18 years old. No academic degree or previous experience is required, and no IELTS or TOEFL is needed. Students, freelancers and professionals can all take part. Volunteers should be able to give up to 20 hours a week for a maximum of 12 weeks, depending on the project, and should be motivated to support humanitarian, environmental and developmental causes.
What you get
The role is unpaid. In return, volunteers gain practical experience, build skills in communication, project management, research and digital collaboration, and work with teams from different countries. They also receive a UN-recognised certificate, and can add the experience to their CV.
How to apply
Applicants create and complete a personal volunteer profile on the official UNV website, then apply for assignments that match their skills. Most projects do not ask for extensive documentation, though clear and complete details help.
Key dates
Assignments last up to 12 weeks, and applications are open all year.
