Overview

This full-time internship program gives current students in technical fields the chance to apply their expertise in an industrial setting. Participants spend 10 to 12 weeks at the Riverlane head office, working alongside software and hardware engineers, mathematicians, physicists, and quantum information theorists. Interns receive guidance from a dedicated supervisor on a project designed to utilize their existing abilities while building knowledge of quantum computing and quantum error correction.

What you get

Selected participants receive a salary of 30,000 to 35,000 British pounds per annum, depending on experience and paid pro rata for the duration of the internship. Additional benefits include private medical insurance, a health cash plan, and life assurance.

Who can apply

Applicants must be current students enrolled in a Bachelor's degree (second year or later), Master's degree, or PhD program. Eligible fields of study include Computer Science, Software Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Electronic Engineering, or other related technical subjects. Candidates must possess the legal right to work in the United Kingdom for the full duration of the internship and be available for full-time work during the summer vacation period.

Requirements

Applicants need experience using at least one general-purpose programming language through coursework, research, or personal projects, alongside an understanding of core programming concepts such as algorithms and data structures. Additional qualifications include strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, effective written and verbal communication skills, initiative, and teamwork capabilities. Prior knowledge of quantum computing is not required, though familiarity with Python or C++, code testing, debugging, version control tools like Git, or collaborative software development is considered advantageous.

How to apply

Candidates must submit a curriculum vitae containing grades received thus far in their degree programs, alongside a covering letter outlining their motivation for applying and the skills they would bring to the position. Applications are submitted online through the employer careers page.

Key dates

The application deadline is Friday 6 November 2026. Interviews take place in Cambridge or virtually if necessary.
