Overview

Stripe, a technology company building programmable financial infrastructure used by more than 10 million businesses, is offering a software engineering internship in London. Interns work on projects across the stack that directly affect how millions of businesses operate, owning problems end to end with support from their manager and teammates. Recent intern projects include expanding the Payments Foundation Model for generalized anomaly detection, building more approachable fraud controls, creating safer payouts, and developing tools that prevent costly pricing mistakes and simplify merchant checkout setup. The programme is described as competitive, with high expectations.

What you will do

Interns operate as real team members, joining team discussions, decisions and technical design, and write software used in production with meaningful impact. They give and receive feedback through code reviews and design discussions, collaborate with engineers and cross-functional partners, and learn quickly by asking good questions and building with the latest AI tooling.

Requirements

Applicants should be pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, mathematics or a related discipline, and have programming experience from side projects or classwork. Stripe works mostly in Ruby, Java, JavaScript, Go and Scala, but expects new languages to be learnable. Experience from previous internships or team projects, including open source, the ability to learn unfamiliar systems independently or with a mentor, and the ability to use AI tools while critically reviewing and validating their output are needed. Preferred are at least one year of university education, specialised knowledge in frontend, backend or infrastructure, experience writing high-quality pull requests with good test coverage, comfort in unfamiliar code bases, and clear written communication.
