Lab Automation Internship
Overview
Adaptyv offers a full-time Lab Automation Internship based in Lausanne, Switzerland. The organization builds an automated lab infrastructure that connects AI agents to physical biology experiments, combining hardware, software, and wet-lab operations. This is a practical, on-site role intended for individuals interested in the intersection of software, hardware, and biology.
Who can apply
Candidates must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor or Master degree program in computer science, robotics, engineering, mechatronics, bioengineering, or a related field. Applicants should possess solid software abilities in Python, including working with APIs, Git, building drivers, and debugging libraries. The role requires a self-starting generalist maker who is organized, reliable, and comfortable building with coding agents like Claude Code. A background in biology is not required, though maker or hacker experience such as electronics, 3D printing, CAD, microcontrollers, or open-source contributions is considered a bonus.
What you get
Interns gain hands-on experience working directly with the automation team in Lausanne to scale automated labs. Responsibilities include programming and running automated liquid-handling protocols on robots like the Hamilton STAR using Python and open-source tools, supporting work-cell operations and maintenance, and writing software for instrument drivers and integrations. Interns also help reverse-engineer instrument communication, test new protocols, document procedures, and assist with physical setup and reagent preparation.
Key dates
The internship requires a full-time commitment of a minimum of three months, with longer durations preferred. The start date is listed as soon as possible, and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
