Overview

The KAIST Visual AI Internship in South Korea provides undergraduate students with practical research experience focused on machine learning tools for visual data. Hosted by the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in Daejeon, participants engage in activities such as coding assignments derived from recent research topics, weekly paper-discussion meetings, and lighter review sessions. Interns work on either a small-scale research project based on a group-provided idea or an original proposal of their own.

Who can apply

Undergraduate students are eligible to apply for the position, with international students permitted to apply from abroad alongside students enrolled in Korean universities. Applicants must have prior experience in developing deep learning techniques and must commit to completing the internship for a minimum duration of 8 weeks. Preference is given to applicants who have completed courses in Diffusion Models and Their Applications or Machine Learning for 3D Data, as well as those who can extend their internship into the following semester. All participants are required to be physically present in the lab throughout the internship period.

What you get

Selected interns receive financial compensation from the host university, though payment is restricted exclusively to students enrolled in universities located within Korea due to administrative rules. International students from abroad are eligible to participate without financial support. The program offers hands-on research experience in an international setting, collaborative discussions among peers, and skill-building opportunities beneficial for future graduate-level research.

How to apply

Applicants must submit an online form that includes their name, email address, department, and graduation year. The application process requires uploading a CV, answering written interview questions with brief responses, explaining motivation for applying, selecting previously completed courses, rating English language proficiency, and detailing past research experience.

Key dates

The application deadline is November 7, 2026, at 11:59 PM Korean Standard Time. The internship program runs from December 28, 2026, to February 26, 2027.
