IMF Fund Internship Program 2027: Economics Research Opportunity in Washington, D.C.
Overview
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is accepting applications for its Fund Internship Program (FIP) for Economists in 2027. It is a paid, full-time, on-site internship at IMF headquarters in Washington, D.C., lasting 10 to 12 weeks, with expected dates of June 7 to August 27, 2027 (requisition 26-R9863). About 50 students from around the world take part in the wider program each year.
Interns work with experienced IMF colleagues on research questions or projects relevant to the IMF's 191 member countries. Areas include macroeconomics, monetary policy, international economics, public finance and financial markets, with topics such as inflation, financial stability, development, fiscal policy, inequality and innovation. Work may involve collecting and analyzing data, reviewing literature, quantitative analysis and communicating findings, and interns may present results to staff.
Who can apply
Applicants should be within one to two years of completing a PhD in macroeconomics or a related field, must remain active students during the internship and return to their university afterward, and must be under 32 when the internship starts in June 2027. Studies should have concentrated on areas such as monetary and international economics or public finance. Strong analytical, quantitative and computer skills and excellent written and spoken English are required. Previous FIP participants cannot reapply.
What you get
The internship carries a competitive salary, round-trip restricted economy-class air travel between the intern's university and Washington, D.C., and limited medical insurance.
