IMF Fund Internship Program 2027
Overview
The IMF Fund Internship Program 2027 offers PhD students in economics a chance to contribute to the work of one of the world's leading international financial institutions. Interns apply their economic research skills to real-world policy questions that matter to the IMF's 191 member countries, working alongside experienced IMF economists, gaining hands-on research experience, strengthening analytical skills and building a professional network in an international environment. Many interns present their findings to IMF staff, and some see their work published internally.
Over 10 to 12 weeks, interns work on an individual research or project assignment at IMF Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The internship gives practical experience, exposure to the IMF's work and the chance to apply academic knowledge to policy and operational challenges. It is aimed at people passionate about macroeconomics, international policy and research with global impact.

For the 2027 programme for economists, candidates must be within one to two years of completing a PhD in macroeconomics or a related field, and be enrolled as a student at the time of the internship, returning to their studies afterward.
