Overview

The CaCTüS Internship Programme is a three-month research placement based in Tübingen and Stuttgart, Germany. Designed for bachelor and master students, the initiative focuses on areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, neuroscience, and cognitive science. The programme is specifically created to support talented individuals who encounter significant personal, financial, geographical, or societal barriers to higher education and scientific development, providing them with hands-on research experience and mentorship at leading scientific institutions.

Who can apply

Applicants must be current bachelor or master students who have not yet started a PhD degree. Undergraduates must have completed at least four semesters, or two years of study, before the internship starts. Candidates are required to have a strong academic record, a relevant background in disciplines such as computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, or related technical fields, and a good command of English. Applicants must also be undertaking a voluntary internship and be able to demonstrate the personal, financial, regional, or societal challenges that have restricted their access to educational and scientific opportunities.

What you get

Selected interns receive a monthly salary of approximately €1,350 to cover living expenses, housing, and health insurance. In addition, the programme arranges accommodation, provides compensation for travel costs, and delivers practical research experience under the supervision of experienced scientists. Participants also gain opportunities to build professional networks within an international research environment. Visa application expenses, including fees and embassy trips, are not reimbursed.

Requirements

Participants must be fully available for the entire 90-day internship period running from July 1 through September 30, 2027, and cannot extend their stay in Germany beyond 90 days due to visa regulations. Candidates must submit an application explaining their motivation, research interests, and the educational barriers they face.
