Overview

The CERN Technical Student Programme is an internship-style studentship at CERN in Meyrin, Switzerland, for students enrolled in bachelor's or master's programmes. It lasts 4 to 12 months and gives students hands-on experience on technical projects in an international workplace, while contributing knowledge from their field of study. CERN states that it values diversity and inclusion.

Students can apply in the following disciplines: Applied Physics, Chemical, Materials and Process Engineering, General and Civil Engineering, Data Science, AI and Analytics, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Information Technologies, Mathematics and Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, and Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability.

Who can apply

Applicants must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State. By the time of selection they must have completed at least 18 months (3 semesters) of study in the relevant field, and they must remain full-time students during the studentship. A good knowledge of English or French is required. PhD students and PhD holders are not eligible.

What you get

Students receive a monthly net allowance of CHF 3,486, 30 days of paid leave per year plus two weeks of annual closure, and CERN health insurance, with the contribution deducted from the allowance. A family supplement and travel expenses to Geneva on joining may also be provided, depending on individual circumstances.

How to apply

Applications are submitted through the CERN careers site. Applicants browse the available positions, read the job description, click I'm interested and complete all required fields. Documents are uploaded in PDF format, in English or French: a CV, a reference letter from a university professor and copies of transcripts.
