Overview
The International Association for Feminist Economics is hosting the 5th IAFFE Feminist Economics School 2027 at Okayama University in Okayama, Japan. The educational programme runs from 29 June to 1 July 2027, taking place immediately before the IAFFE Pre-Conference on 1 July 2027 and the IAFFE Annual Conference from 2 to 4 July 2027. Selected participants are expected to attend the full school, the Pre-Conference activities, and the Annual Conference, totaling approximately six days.
Who can apply
The programme is designed for professionals, researchers, activists, and social movement participants who have had limited access to formal training in feminist economics. Applicants must meet at least one specific eligibility criterion by having a minimum of five years of professional work, activism, or social movement experience in related areas, or by having completed at least three years of advanced graduate studies in a related field. A solid command of English is required to engage in workshops and discussions. Applications from individuals based in the Global South and members of historically discriminated groups worldwide are especially encouraged.
What you get
There is no participation fee for the school. Participants receive specialised training in feminist economic thought, methodologies, and policy applications through interactive workshops and collaborative learning. The programme provides an opportunity to connect with researchers, activists, and professionals while engaging with the wider community through the Pre-Conference and Annual Conference. Additionally, travel grants are available for selected participants to help cover transportation costs, though funding is not guaranteed for every applicant.
Requirements
Applicants must complete the official application form with accurate information in all required sections. The application requires personal details, English proficiency levels, employment and educational qualifications, and estimated travel costs in US dollars. It also asks for accessibility needs, visa requirements, membership status, and conference presentation plans. A statement of purpose of up to 3,000 characters must be included to explain the applicant's connection to feminist economics, learning objectives, relevant experience, and reasons for applying.
Key dates
The application deadline is 10 December 2026. Decision notifications will be sent by early February 2027. The school takes place from 29 June to 1 July 2027, followed by the IAFFE Pre-Conference on 1 July 2027 and the IAFFE Annual Conference from 2 to 4 July 2027.
