Overview

The Faculty for the Future programme provides fellowships to women from eligible low- and middle-income countries who are pursuing PhD studies or postdoctoral research in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Administered by the Schlumberger Foundation, the initiative aims to strengthen the representation of women in scientific and technical fields by supporting outstanding researchers who can contribute to the development of their home countries. Successful applicants also join the Faculty for the Future global community, which offers opportunities to build professional and academic connections. For the 2027 funding cycle, particular interest is given to candidates working in mathematics, computer science, engineering, and physical sciences.

Who can apply

Applicants must be women from countries classified as eligible low- and middle-income countries under the programme rules. Candidates must be pursuing a PhD or postdoctoral research in a STEM discipline and must be enrolled, admitted, or have applied to a university or research institution outside their home country. Applicants are required to demonstrate an excellent academic record, leadership, community involvement, and a track record of encouraging women and girls to pursue STEM education or careers. Candidates must also show a commitment to returning to their home countries to contribute to socioeconomic development, explaining how their research and future professional plans will support national or local progress.

What you get

Successful applicants receive financial support for eligible doctoral or postdoctoral research undertaken at a university or research institution abroad, subject to the Foundation funding conditions and selection decisions. Fellows gain international academic exposure and membership in a global community of researchers and professionals through the network. The fellowship offers a platform to strengthen research expertise, develop professional connections, and support future leadership in advancing STEM education and encouraging girls in science.

How to apply

Eligible candidates must apply through the official Faculty for the Future application portal. Applicants should review the eligibility criteria to confirm that their country, research discipline, academic status, and overseas institution meet the requirements. Candidates need to clarify their research proposal, demonstrate academic strength through supporting documents, explain the development impact of their work, and highlight leadership and community engagement such as mentoring or outreach. Submissions must follow the portal instructions and be completed before the application deadline.

Key dates

Applications opened on 1 September 2026. The application deadline is 7 November 2026. Results are expected to be announced in early April 2027.
