Overview

The Millennium Fellowship Class of 2027 is a global leadership development programme designed for undergraduate students who want to drive positive social change and advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Organised jointly by the United Nations Academic Impact and the Millennium Campus Network, the semester-long initiative runs from August to November 2027. Selected participants work on campus-based initiatives that address local and community challenges, receiving leadership training, peer learning opportunities, networking, and international recognition.

Who can apply

Undergraduate students from eligible campuses worldwide can apply, provided they are at least 18 years old and remain enrolled and in good standing at their university or college throughout the fellowship period. Applicants are welcome from all academic disciplines and do not need to study specific fields like international development or environmental science. Candidates must also be available to take part in required in-person campus sessions and collaborative activities, and must demonstrate a genuine commitment to social impact and the Sustainable Development Goals.

What you get

Participants receive leadership training focused on communication, teamwork, project planning, and problem-solving, along with guidance to develop and strengthen their social impact projects. Fellows gain global networking opportunities by connecting with undergraduate leaders from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, and those who successfully complete the programme earn a certificate of recognition from the United Nations Academic Impact and the Millennium Campus Network. Participation in the fellowship is completely free for all selected fellows and participating universities, though the programme does not provide a guaranteed cash grant for project expenses.

Requirements

Applicants must navigate a two-round application process. Round one evaluates the applicant's background, motivation, and interest in social impact, while round two requires candidates to submit further details about a social impact project or idea, explain their commitment to the chosen issue, and provide one academic or professional recommendation. Additionally, each participating campus must have at least eight selected fellows, and the organisers encourage a minimum of 15 applications per campus to support cohort formation.

Key dates

The priority application deadline is 31 October 2026. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. The fellowship duration runs from August to November 2027.
