HuMENA for Human Rights and Civic Engagement is offering a three-day practical training programme focused on strategic and safer engagement with United Nations human rights mechanisms. The online training will be delivered in Arabic from October 26 to October 28, 2026, and is designed to accommodate approximately 15 participants. The programme aims to help human rights defenders strengthen their advocacy strategies, prepare submissions for international bodies, and navigate protection pathways while operating in restrictive environments.
Who can apply
The call is open to human rights defenders, civil society workers, researchers, journalists, lawyers, and members of human rights initiatives. Eligible applicants must have work, a case, or an advocacy priority connected to Lebanon, Bahrain, Syria, Egypt, or Iraq. Individuals living in exile or within diaspora communities are eligible to apply if their advocacy focus relates to one of these five target countries. Applicants do not need advanced prior knowledge of UN mechanisms or affiliation with a registered organization.

Priority is given to defenders operating in restrictive or high-risk civic environments, individuals based in exile or diaspora communities, representatives of smaller or under-resourced organizations, defenders exposed to risks due to their work, and communities underrepresented in international advocacy spaces.
