Overview

The World Bank Government Analytics Fellowship Program is a six-month initiative created to help public sector data and administration professionals improve governance through data-informed practices. The program is launched by the World Bank Development Economics Vice-Presidency in partnership with the Development Impact Group, the Institutions Global Department, the Institute for Economic Development, and University College London. It combines intensive in-person training with ongoing in-service support, allowing participants to build internal capacity for evidence-based policymaking, improve institutional data governance practices, and lead sustainable innovations within their home agencies.

Who can apply

The program is aimed at mid- to senior-level government officials and data practitioners currently employed in national or sub-national governments. Eligible professionals typically work in policy evaluation, budgeting, service delivery, civil service reform, or digital transformation. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to improving government operations through innovation and data analytics, and prior exposure to data analysis or program evaluation is encouraged though extensive technical experience is not strictly required.

What you get

Participants gain access to cutting-edge resources, global networks, and technical expertise, including guidance from the Government Analytics Handbook and mentorship from World Bank and University College London professionals. For applicants from Official Development Assistance-eligible countries, the World Bank provides fully funded participation by covering major expenses for the in-person component, which include travel, accommodation, and daily subsistence.

Requirements

Applicants must develop and execute a Government Analytics project aligned with their institutional goals and national priorities. Final selection is determined by the strength of the candidate’s profile, the project proposal, and how well the candidate aligns with the program objectives. All application materials and supporting documents must be submitted through the official World Bank application portal.

Key dates

The application deadline is November 16, 2026. The program includes a two-week full-time in-person engagement in Washington, D.C., featuring the Public Institutions Conference and the Government Analytics course, with the broader program start dates communicated directly to selected participants.
