Overview

The CDC Steven M. Teutsch Prevention Effectiveness Fellowship is a two-year, post-doctoral, applied training program. It responds to public health demands for rigorous decision modeling, health economics-based inquiry, integrative health services research, and quantitative policy analysis.

The program offers two distinct learning paths. The Traditional Track serves economists and health services researchers. The Analytics and Modeling Track is designed for applied mathematicians, industrial engineers, operations researchers, disease modelers, ecologists, data scientists, and epidemiologists.

Who can apply

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent degree, with all requirements completed before the start of the fellowship. Degrees obtained at non-US institutions may require English translation and an academic credentialing evaluation to verify equivalency to United States degrees.

Candidates must be United States citizens, US Permanent Residents, or non-US citizens or permanent residents eligible for specific work authorizations. Eligible work authorizations include an OPT STEM extension covering the entire two years for current F1 visa-holders, a TN visa under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement for eligible citizens of Canada and Mexico, a J1 cultural exchange visa or J2 spouse visa, an H1B visa, or another applicable work-authorizing visa.

Eligible fields for the Traditional Track include economics, agricultural economics, health services research, public health, and related quantitative fields. The Analytics and Modeling Track accepts candidates with backgrounds in epidemiology, infectious disease modeling, disease ecology, applied mathematics, operations research, industrial engineering, biological science, data science, evolutionary or analytic biology, or related quantitative fields.

What you get

Fellows receive compensation at the General Schedule 12, step 3 level along with standard federal employee benefits, which include medical insurance and leave.
